Beyond Perfection
Fix your eyes on perfection and you make almost everything speed towards it.
About |
|
Bear is quite the dominant character towards other horses, however with his handlers he is usually well-mannered; key word being usually. You will learn not to turn your back on Bear, or grow to trust him too much, as despite his sweet gestures he can be awfully unpredictable. Though it's not a sign of aggression, his cheeky biting is his idea of some stallion-like fun, and you really have to be careful of those teeth! He is often an excitable horse, and it takes some persuasion and a strong rider to keep him in check when mares are around. When it is just him and the boys, Bear tends to be at the very top of the pecking order and even though he is calmer around other stallions, he has a tendency to lunge and put others in their place. Because of his spirited tendencies, he does not pay a whole lot of attention to what is going on with his body and often wanders off track when distracted, something seen occasionally in his racing. Bear likes being around people but only on his terms, as he can easily get frustrated with humans' lack of playfulness. He has learned that pawing continuously can result in new toys such as jolly balls and salt licks, which happen to be his absolute favorite and keep him sated for a while.

BEYOND THE LIMITS (Sire) A very well known racer and sire here on the tracks of GHF and TW. He has a full list of successful G1 winning offspring including Beyond His Candy, After Dusk, Limitless Time, and Prize Me Proud. Beyond The Limits loved running longer distances on dirt and was inducted into the Breeding Hall of Fame in 2013. He is still being used as a producer of distance runners and is located at Grayson Meadows.
PERFECTION (Dam) An original from GHF's first year, Perfection managed to snag twenty-three wins, two of them being major, before her retirement. She was a rather successful on the turf and was able to cover just about every distance there was on the track. Since retirement, she has sired a variety of distance turf runners (almost all mares) with two managing to reach grade one, Flawed Princess and Whipped Cream. Both mares have only just begun to introduce their offspring to the track and have yet to prove themselves as producers.
Both of Beyond Perfection's half-sisters Whipped Cream and Flawed Princess rocketed to championship level at age 4 and 6, respectively. Both became grade ones in their last season on the track and were nearly unstoppable. Amira won the BC F&M Turf with Whipped Cream finishing second behind her. It's in Beyond Perfection's lines to do something very nice as he ages. - Ripley Marsh

Grade Three Dirt 9-12 Furlongs Preceder It takes a skilled jockey to keep Bear focused and the ride tactful. If let go on his own, he can be expected to veer all over the place or run out, and this is likely to blame for those few lower placings. However if you keep him in order, and encourage him to sit behind the third or fourth horse, he will maintain a very competitive pace and (with a firm hand) hold his focus. It is best for Bear to make his move within the final three furlongs, pushing him here is favorable and the most likely to gain him a clean win, depending on the field, as his insane hind-drive can propel him forwards with that cooped-up energy and conservative approach. When he is presented correctly he is a fierce competitor! Our jockey knows him well enough to do so. He usually breaks ahead of the majority, however is never the first to start; his decent take offs usually present him with the perfect position to settle behind the front runners. He doesn't push them, but has been known to move over in front of them in the last few furlongs in an effort to block; since being chased from behind doesn't wholly faze him. |
