"Addie" Y12 Bay Thoroughbred 16 Hands Mare |
|
Addie is one of those horses that is born with an ‘old soul’ without a single mean bone in her body. She would never 'hurt a fly' and is always aware of where her body is at in case she should accidentally step on someone's toes. Though she gets along with other horses, she does best with humans due to her mild temperament. If put out into the pasture with a bunch of other mares, Addie tends to get picked on and pushed around. For now she is content being in a paddock with another calm horse, mainly Southern Peach and a few select others. We often like to think she is a daydreamer as she has moments where Addie will gaze off into the distance, watching nothing at all. She is very calm but does have a small spook when it comes to large and a 'new' objects, such as farm equipment. Being one of the favorites, Addie is taken out on the track often, where she never throws her head or balks at the gate. She absolutely loves running as it challenges her mind and gives her an opportunity to beat the other horses for once. Most times though, she is laid back and doted on, enjoying her steady stream of sugar cubes from the barn hands.

Grade Four Dual Surfaced 7-10 Furlongs Closer Race days are never stressful for Addie as she stays calm and cool-headed throughout the whole process. Post-parade is her favorite time as there are always tons of people to observe and watch. She loves showing off her always-glowing coat and often nickers to catch people's attention. Gating is a breeze with her as she never has or never will throw a fit. Addie has never been one to break first from the gate. She has a tendency to drag her feet a little and has often stumbled. She is quick to recover and settles into her long, easy stride fairly quickly. By then she is usually toward the back of the pack, where she is most comfortable. From here she watches the other horses and waits for her turn to make a move. As she hits the back stretch, a flick of the crop from the jockey opens her up. She will eat up the distance with ease, and gains on the leaders. |
