Dark Sparrow
"I am only a sparrow amongst a great flock of sparrows."
About |
Swoop takes after her full brother, Out of the Darkness, with astonishing similarities both on and off the track. Out of all the fillies and mares in the barn she will be the first to greet the crew in the morning and usually the last to watch them leave the barn at night. She loves attention and relishes her daily grooming from the stable hands. There isn’t a day where her coat is not glistening in the sun and her mane and tail free of all tangles. Something about the filly attracts everyone’s attention when she’s being led out to the track or even let out in the pasture for a much needed break. She inherited her sire’s deep chest and powerful shoulders but retained her dam’s perfect face and slightly longer ears. The pitch black mare gets along well with the other yearlings in the paddock and prefers to watch as they romp around and play. On the track, however, Swoop’s demeanor changes completely and a whole different horse emerges. She has a tendency to catch onto little hints on race day and by the time the silks are being put on, her inner demon is ready to explode. This is where Felicity must choose her rider carefully because Swoop gets impatient rather quickly. If they aren’t moving fast enough for her, it is likely she will toss them and take a lap by herself.

Maiden Turf 7-12 Furlongs (added Jan. Y16) Mid-Pack Swoop prefers to run in the middle of the pack where she can keep an eye on just about every horse she will be going up against. The filly has an uncanny ability to pick out her major competitors and usually does so prior to being loaded into the gates. When it’s time to go, she will break cleanly, but is not always the fastest to break from the gate. Little does it matter though because she has a lot of room to make up the lost time. Swoop likes running longer distances but has proven that she can pull off a fast seven furlongs easily. At the longer distances she settles just behind the leaders and waits until the last few furlongs to make her move. All it takes is a small cue from her jockey and she will kick into a new gear. |
